Oboe Tools and Accessories
Following is a list of all the reed making tools and supplies that will be needed. * required to own.
- *Cane - You'll progress from purchasing processed cane to tube cane. Start by ordering 20-30 pieces of shaped cane. Select the 10.5-11mm diameter and the Pfeiffer/Mack shape.
- *Rigotti Shaped Oboe Cane, 10.5-11mm, Pfeiffer/Mack Shape
- Rigotti Gouged Oboe Cane, 10.5-11mm
- Rigotti Oboe Tube Cane, 10.5-11mm, start with 1/2 pound
- *Knife - You'll need at least one to start, but as you progress, you may want to invest in a second.
- *Start with the Chiarugi Razor Knife
- Upgrade to the Landwell Double Hollow Ground Knife, any hardness
- *Plaque - Rigotti Flat Blued with Pointed Ends (Order 2 to start; they're easily lost!)
- *Staples - You'll need 10-20, but you may want to start with a couple varieties to make sure they fit in your particular reed well. Choose from the following.
- *Mandrel - Chiarugi 2 regular mandrel or French-style with Baroque wood handle.
- *Cutting Block - Pisoni short or tall
- *Steel Ruler - Hodge 6-inch/metric
- *Thread - Nylon Thread, FF (Choose one or more colors from any brand.)
- *Beeswax
- *Razor Blades - Stanley Brand
- *Sharpening Stone
- Purchase the Hard Arkansas to start with.
- When your knife is worn down enough to need a more thorough sharpening, invest in the India Combination Bench Stone
- Sharpening Steel - Additionally, to maintain a nice edge to your knife, choose the MusEcho Burnishing Rod.
- *Silk Oboe Swab
- OCB Rolling Paper
- Cork Grease
