This oboe mute is the result of a two-year collaboration between Gonzalo Mejia and Henrik Rehme.
Unlike the Lorée oboe mute and the famous sock-in-the-bell method, this mute takes a much more innovative approach: like a trumpet mute, the sound is reduced by the foam inside. As the airflow is not altered, you can still play down the the low B without the intonation changing.
The mute is made of PLA (polylactid acid), which is derived from natural raw materials and is biodegradable. Because the material is not very UV-resistant, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.

Oboe Mute

Sock in a Bell Would be Better
Did very little to mute the sound, with the exception of the lowest B and Bb. Those were completely muffled.
