Bassoon Shaper Handle by Georg Rieger
The Rieger Bassoon Shaper Handle works in combination with any of the Rieger Shaper Tips for Bassoon or Contrabassoon to shape your cane for your reed-making needs. The handle is designed as one functioning body, but it is comprised of a straight piece of metal with a pull bar through the end. Along the handle are two arms which will clamp the cane to the shaper tip and a rectangular piece which slides upward, locking the arms and the cane to the shaper tip. There is a flathead screw which is loosened to remove or place the shaper tip into its receiver and then tightened to lock the tip in place. All pieces of the shaper handle are constructed of stainless steel. It is used in conjunction with a shaper tip as one complete cane shaping unit.
The Rieger shaper tip and handle are in use by many professional and student players all around the world. This is part of the fold-over style of shapers for bassoon or contrabassoon. One distinction of the Rieger system for shaping is that this handle can be used with shaper tips for bassoon AND contrabassoon, whereas straight or flat shapers can only produce cane with one shape. This is especially useful if you anticipate making reeds for both instruments or you wish to try different shapes by borrowing or purchasing different tips.
Please see our Rieger 1A shaper tip, sold separately.
The handle is compatible with Pisoni shaper tips.
