Reeds 'n Stuff Bassoon Pregouger

This Reeds 'n Stuff Pregouger for Bassoon not only planes the cane with a flat blade but also gouges it out to about 1.75 mm in the middle and then smaller on the sides with a circular blade. This is the Crank-Style pregouger. This amount of pregouging saves the blade of your gouging machine and also speeds up the gouging process. It only takes a couple of seconds to send a piece of cane through this pregouger. This machine has a standard size bed which works for cane between 24-26 mm. This pregouging machine will prolong the life of your gouging machine by reducing wear on your blades. The manufacturer recommends a minimum thickness of 1.70 mm in the finished, pregouged piece of cane.

An ingenious two-blade design prepares the cane prior to gouging. The flat blade cuts the piece to the right width; at the same time the patented round blade gouges it to almost the final dimensions. After pregouging, only 3-4 strokes with a gouger are needed to finish the cane. Even crooked pieces of cane can be gouged after being pregouged.

The anodized aluminum bed surface guarantees a long life. By rotating the patented cylindrical blade, you can use the entire perimeter of the blade. The reversible flat blade is sharpened on both sides to double the lifespan. If you are working on, for example, bassoon and contra bassoon cane, we recommend their exchange sets. They make changing from one bed diameter to another very simple.

For comfort and safety, the included C-clamp holds the machine securely to a table edge.
