Ortwein Bassoon Reamer
Mark Ortwein's Bassoon Reamer is a recent entry in the last few years, and it's at a very competitive price point! A reamer removes wood from the thickness of the tube of your reed to enhance the fit of the reed on the bocal. This spiral reamer has four flutes to cut into the wood of the tube, and to do so in a very smooth manner. The flutes are the cutting surfaces, and spiral means the flutes go around as compared to straight flutes, which go straight up. It features a locking stop to control how much depth you wish to ream your reed, which is adjustable with an Allen wrench, and an ergonomic wood handle, with a rubber tip cover. Overall, this is a high quality product at a great price!
Mark Ortwein is the bassoon professor at the University of Indianapolis, and he freelances on bassoon, contrabassoon, and saxophone in that area.
