Digital caliper. Steel with fixation screw. Easy to take with you in a tool pouch. It comes with a black plastic case. Automatically turns off when not in use and automatically turns on as soon as you move the caliper arms.
This will measure both the outside of something or the inside. Measure the inside of your staples to get the most consistent ones. Measure the width of your reeds or your shaped cane when you're experimenting. You can also measure the length of your reed with it.
