The LR44 alkaline button battery is a compatible battery to the one used in the two digital calipers and the dial indicators from Reeds 'n Stuff. They all come with the SR44 silver-oxide battery but eventually the battery will need to be replaced. (Mine lasted about a year.) The SR44 battery that they come with is a quality silver-oxide battery with many positive characteristics. Silver-oxide batteries have slightly higher voltage than alkaline batteries (1.55 vs 1.5 volts), higher cut off voltage (1.2 vs 1.0 volts), more stable output voltage during use, and larger capacity (150-200 mAh vs 110-130 mAh). Also, silver-oxide batteries commonly have longer shelf life (over 5 years). Alkaline batteries have 1.5 volts which drops over time. Typical capacity of LR44 batteries is around 110-130 mAh, with shelf life between 2-5 years. These qualities are all acceptable for use in these products and come at a much lower price. Add one to your digital tool order so you're not without a battery when your tool's battery runs out.
