Burl Lane Contrabassoon Straight Shaper by Reeds 'n Stuff

This shape was created after precisely measuring an original Burl Lane shaper tip. It has been accurately converted to a straight shaper to make this once hard-to-find shape readily available.

What is special about this shape? The narrowest point is very far back (about 13 mm from the butt) which provides a smooth low register.

The Reeds 'n Stuff Straight Shapers are made from carefully selected materials and finely finished. Through a hardness treatment tailored to their size and intended use, they offer high shape stability, precision, and durability. The pair of engraved lines on the sides mark the narrowest point of the shape and are an important tool for precise shaping. For optimal shape transfer, shape from both sides towards this narrowest point.

The outermost lines are to help center shorter cane (118 mm for bassoon, 148 mm for contrabassoon).

Thanks to the silicone tips, both gouged and profiled cane can be shaped.
The silicone tips secure the thinner parts of the profiled cane in the center and prevent the cane from slipping.

The silicone tips can be removed and replaced as desired, especially when shaping unprofiled cane.
