Brundage Professional Bassoon Reed
Mr. Brundage makes his reeds from a variety of brands of cane, selecting the best pieces from each, and he shapes them on a customized shaper. They are then play-tested to meet his exacting standards on both his professional bassoon and his Fox bassoon for testing. His reeds are expected to work well on a wide variety of instruments. The Brundage reed is our most popular bassoon reed. It performs extremely well through the entire bassoon range, and it has a very nice dynamic range and good response. These reeds produce an incredibly dark sound, with no buzz, having a very even tone color and scale. The consistency from reed to reed is fantastic! They have a thicker profile. These reeds are best suited to those who want a harder reed. Some advanced high school students may find these reeds work well for them, though they may be best suited for university and higher level players.

Excellent finished reed
The Brundage reed performs extremely well through the range of the bassoon octaves. Almost no adjustment was needed out of the tube. Very nice dynamic range.

Recommended by bassoon teacher
These reeds were recommended by my son’s bassoon instructor when he first started lessons a year ago. They’re the only reeds we use.

Evaluation of Brundage Professional Bassoon Reeds
I purchased three of the reeds recently. When they arrived, there was little I needed to do to get them to play to my satisfaction: the throat had to be reamed a little to fit properly on my Fox bocal. Range and intonation were better than more expensive reeds. There Brundage reeds are well made and reasonably priced.
