This mandrel uses an intuitively designed bassoon forming pin by LC Double Reeds. These steel forming pins utilize an alloy and taper which slides easily through the throat of the reed to promote a smoother forming process, while providing enough grip to the cane when fully inserted to promise a sufficient hold while aging the blank. The LC Double Reeds forming pins feature two laser-inscribed lines on each pin: the bottom line indicates a recommended depth for how far down on the pin the blank should be formed, while the top line recommends where the blank should fit after the beveling process. No hard ledges were used along the length of the forming pins, so that users may deviate from the recommended measurements as they so choose.
The handle is a beautiful round blue steel and the tip can be easily removed from the handle by loosening a set screw.
