Reed Machines Finished Tip Cutter for Oboe Reeds
The finished tip cutter can cut the tip of all types of profiled oboe reed. It brings the reed to the right length or refreshes the reed tip. The cutting principle is a knife that is pressed onto a special plastic plate by your thumb. This cutting system has no overlapping parts so there is no space where cane fibers can go. The result is a straight reed tip free of uncut fibers. Because the finished tip cutter does not have the lever system which the tip cutter has, it is cheaper and smaller than the tip cutter.
The reed holder has 2 sides, it can be turned 180° to define which side is active. One side is to hold reeds with an oboe style staple and the other side is to hold reeds with a English horn style staple. The face against which the reed is positioned corresponds with the length scale on the base plate. The reed holder has a spring loaded ball to give it some friction in the finished tip cutter. This prevents that it moves unintended in, or falls out of, the finished tip cutter. The reed holder can be secured by hand with a knurled screw.
For cutting reed blanks, see the Reed Machines Oboe Tip Cutter.
