Rebecca Meisel has been serving as the bassoon instructor at Virginia Tech and Radford University since 2015. She also teaches for the summer residential Governor’s School for Humanities and Visual and Performing Arts at Radford. She is teaching at Virginia Tech as well.
In addition to her positions at the university level, Rebecca operates a thriving music school, Blue Mountain Music Studio, located in Roanoke, VA. She provides private instruction in piano, flute and bassoon to students from preschool age to adults. Among other events, the studio hosts two themed recitals each year.
She performs with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra as a substitute bassoonist, and also plays with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. She frequently joins various other ensembles around the area for special performance events throughout the year. The local Celtic band, Second Wynde has her featured as their flute player.
Rebecca began her study of the bassoon with Anthony DeAngelis, of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. She later went on to study with renowned Eastman professor emeritus K. David Van Hoesen. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon performance from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY, under the direction of John Hunt.
