These reeds are the second generation of the KlastiG oboe bocal reed designed and made by K.GE.
They have teamed up with a Japanese company specialising in synthetic materials. Through vigorous testing, they have now launched a synthetic reed that provides a warm and dynamic quality.
The reeds are bound using the bocal reed tying-on method and scraped by a CNC machine. It can be adjusted like normal with a standard reed knife.
The US Style KlastiG reed is only made in their D & N Shape models as they have found them to be the most suitable for American-style reeds. However, the cut would be considered slightly shorter than a traditional American reed. Hodge Products only carries the narrower N shape. We have found this reed to be the most balanced synthetic American-style oboe reed on the market.
This synthetic reed needs to be soaked in water before playing. We recommend about 80°C/176°F for two minutes, and during a break it's good to keep it in room temperature water.
