The Donati (black thread) professional reed is made from Donati tube cane and gouged on a Reeds 'n' Stuff gouger at 1.2mm +/- .1mm. It is profiled on a Popkin profiling machine and shaped with a Rieger 1A shape. The Rieger (blue thread) profressional reed is made from Rieger tube cane and processed the same. All Carlson reeds are scraped over a period of 3-5 days to help prevent dramatic changes due to weather. Each reed is tested for response in the high and low registers, tone and intonation (A=440). Reed dimensions are: tube-30mm, blade-28mm +/- 1mm. A 4th wire is used to keep the end of the tube round and adjustable.
