Alliaud Oboe Tube Cane, 2020-2021 crops

Alliaud cane is a hard cane which produces a well projecting tone. It is sorted by Hodge Products. The growing year is 2020/21.

About the Company

Sarl Alliaud Roseaux has been providing the double reed community with tube cane for 80 years and three generations.

Located in southeastern France in the Avignon region (Vaucluse), they specialize in cane for the manufacture of double reeds for oboe, baroque oboe, oboe d’amore, English horns, and bassoon. For more than 80 years, they have been committed to providing a quality product and service to their customers.

The cane is harvested in winter from December to the end of February and is at least two years old before shipment. However, the cane remains fragile and must be stored in a dry and well-ventilated room. As the wood ages, it dries and becomes harder.

Cane is harvested only from their farms in southeastern France. The cane is cut in winter from December to February and is stored in a large shed for 1 to 2 years. After storage, it is cut with a saw based on quality, diameter, length, and other factors. The cut cane is then measured and selected according to its diameter. They have been doing this manually for 3 generations. After storage, sawing, and grading comes the sunshine. The cane tubes remain 2 to 4 weeks (depending on the season) in the sun to give them a slightly golden color.

    $75 Trash

This cane was complete unusable. I ordered 10-10.5 diameter and most pieces are about 9.5. Every piece was warped, bent, or twisted. I am not super picky about cane, especially for student reeds, but this was completely unusable.

I like it, and I'd take the other 1/2 lb. if it ever comes in!
